The requirements of ISO 42001
The Standard uses a structure of ten clauses called Annex SL which when grouped cover the following five areas:
Risk management: under ISO 42001, organisations are required to carry out comprehensive AI risk assessments to identify potential risks to users and society, and perform AI impact assessments to understand the broader consequences of AI use and deployment on individuals and communities.
Management responsibility: the areas within the AI management system that your management team need to focus on, be involved with and be accountable for.
Resource management: how resources such as people, infrastructure and facilities must be assigned to make sure of the best possible performance.
Operational planning and control: processes for managing AI system concerns include ensuring security, protection, fairness, transparency, data quality, and overall quality throughout the system’s lifecycle.
